In the United States, being a responsible citizen with a firearm doesn’t have its rewards, and self-defense can come with severe consequences. Our country has adopted a communist mentality where thugs are viewed as “good” and law-abiding citizens are bad. Sadly, this harsh reality is hitting home for a law-abiding resident from Queens, New York who is now facing the daunting prospect of spending 91-years behind bars simply for defending himself against a robber.

ABC News:

A man from Queens who allegedly shot and killed a suspect who was trying to rob him appeared in court Friday on 26 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Charles Foehner, 65, during his arraignment before Judge Jerry Iannece in Queens Criminal Court.

Judge Iannece showed Foehner no sympathy during the brief court appearance, doubling the amount initially requested by the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

“The defendant was on the street with a loaded, unlicensed gun,” Iannece said. “There are too many shootings in this city! The court is quite concerned with what we see.”

Foehner was walking to a parking garage when he said the robbery suspect, identified as 32-year-old Cody Gonzalez, demanded money.

The poor guy is facing charges for an absurd 26 felonies, each carrying a minimum prison sentence of 3.5 years. The so-called reasoning behind these insane charges is that despite being a decent, law-abiding citizen with a valid license for five rifles, he failed to obtain a license for some of his other firearms, so they’re throwing the book at him.

Amy Swearer, Senior Legal Fellow at Heritage had this to say about the shameful case in a recent Twitter thread:

26 felonies. They’re charging him with 26 felonies, each of which has a mandatory minimum of 3.5 years in prison. Why? Because an otherwise upstanding, peaceable citizen with a license for 5 rifles…didn’t have a license for his other guns.

If he has a NYC permit for 5 rifles, he’s an upstanding citizen *according the city itself*. The process for obtaining a rifle permit is virtually identical to the one for a pistol permit, except that the latter is twice as expensive and requires an in-person interview.

But both require extensive background checks, fingerprinting, notarized character references, and signed affidavits from any “adult co-habitants.” They have to be renewed every three years, to the tune of hundreds of dollars in non-refundable fees.

He has “assault weapons,” “high capacity magazines,” and body armor which he likely legally purchased prior to NY’s respective bans and just never got rid of…probably because those are thousands of dollars in personal property.

We’ve been told over and over again that no one wants to punish peaceable citizens for merely possessing firearms and defending themselves. We’ve been called crazy every time for saying that’s a lie and we all know it. But here we are.

If the mugger had lived, he’d be facing infinitely less time in prison than the peaceable citizen who had the *audacity* to defend himself in public without begging the government’s permission and schlepping it countless hundreds of dollars. What dystopian hell is this?

Good question Amy. This is a progressive, communist dystopian hell, and it’s only going to get worse.

The ABC News story continues to say that the 32-year-old would-be mugger lunged at him with a sharp object at 2 a.m. on a Wednesday, and the deceased crook has a lengthy rap sheet with more than a dozen prior arrests.

Of course, Foehner was not charged in the fatal shooting because he did nothing wrong, but that didn’t stop corrupt NYC from searching his apartment and throwing the book at him.

This New York City citizen is suffering because elected officials have seriously failed in their job responsibilities and are not prioritizing the safety of the people. This is their fault, not his. They should be imprisoned for 90 years for ignoring their responsibilities and putting decent hardworking Americans in harms way.

More details:

It comes after a search warrant recovered more than two dozen firearms, which included pistols, shotguns, rifles, three assault rifles, an AK47, 153 loaded high-capacity magazines, and two body armor vests. Foehner has a license for five rifles.

Foehner told prosecutors, “I pulled the gun out of my pocket. It didn’t go off accidentally. I pulled the trigger. I emptied the revolver. Last night I was carrying a firearm because of the crime in the city…I’ve had it since the 1990s. I obtained it in a bar one night. The firearms are mine and mine alone.”

The retired doorman allegedly told detectives he collects the firearms as a hobby. But Foehner does not have a permit for the pistol or for most of the weapons he collected.

As Amy Swearer rightly pointed out, if the criminal who attempted to rob this middle-class American had lived, he would’ve been released on bail, and able to commit more crimes in just a few hours.

According to his own neighbors, Charles Foehner is an American hero who did a great favor to the poor law-abiding slaves languishing in New York City:

Several of Foehner’s neighbors told Eyewitness News they are sympathetic.

“He was protecting himself. So how can I blame him? You know, unfortunately, the guy had to lose his life. I don’t wish that on anybody. But this is the circumstances when you randomly just rob people. You never know what you’re going to get,” neighbor Vercelle Evans said.

In the minutes before the shooting, investigators believe the assailant went on a rampage, inexplicably smashing windows in two neighboring buildings. Foehner lives around the corner with his wife, where he is well-liked. Sources say he has an active NYPD firearms permit.

Angel Rodriguez lives down the hall.

“If video shows that, you know, he was acting in in self-defense and the guy was actually trying to harm him, then I you know, I believe we should be able to protect ourselves,” neighbor Rodriguez said.

Despite what the corrupt regime tells you, Charles Foehner is a great hero who did nothing wrong. His only crime, perhaps, was failing to flee the disgusting cesspit that the once-great New York City has come to be.

Welcome to Joe Biden’s America, where your dystopian future awaits. In this newly updated country, if you refuse to submit to thugs, you could find yourself facing a 100-year prison sentence.
