Economics Professor Sergei Guriev: ‘War in Ukraine could lead to meltdown of global food system’

A stark warning from the United Nations, which says the conflict in Ukraine could lead to a global food shortage - due to rising prices and an inability to plant crops. Both Russia and Ukraine export large amounts of grain to Africa and the Middle East. Meanwhile, further sanctions have been announced against Russia, while hundreds of international firms have suspended their operations in the country.
