In 2016, President Trump terrified our nation’s corrupt ruling class and inspired patriotic citizens everywhere with his pledge to put America First and to fight for the interests of the “forgotten man.” One would be hard-pressed to find a more poignant and compelling example of such a forgotten man as Jake Gardner—a hero who tragically took his own life as a result of relentless political persecution campaign against him by a corrupt legal system and their enablers in the mainstream media.

A Nebraska bar owner that killed a rioter who was attacking him and his business has committed suicide, a friend of Jake Gardner has confirmed to The Gateway Pundit.

The bar owner, Jake Gardner, was indicted by a grand jury on counts of manslaughter, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted first-degree assault and making terrorist threats after intense political pressure was placed on the city. The district attorney had originally ruled it was self defense.

On May 30, the 38-year-old veteran confronted a group of rioters outside one of the bars he owns in Omaha and was knocked to the ground.

“From there, he fired two warning shots and tried to get to his feet, prosecutors said. As he did, Gardner got into a fight with one man, James Scurlock, 22. The two scuffled before Gardner fired a shot that killed him,” Yahoo News reports. [Gateway Pundit]

Jake Gardner served multiple tours in Iraq. He ran his own business. When a violent mob rampaged through Omaha, he put his own life at risk to protect his life’s work, and civilization itself. And when a violent rioter chose to attack him, he shot the man dead.

Gardner deserved to be treated as an American hero. Instead, he is dead, a victim of the destruction and hate the left has unleashed on America. Gardner’s shooting was caught on video. It was a textbook self-defense case. He was attacked without any justification, and used his gun to protect himself. Omaha’s district attorney immediately declined to press charges.

The case should have ended there, but it didn’t, for only one reason: Gardner was white, and the rioter he killed was black. The national press openly embraced the racial angle of the killing. A CBS News’ headline sums it up: “A white bar owner in Omaha shot and killed a black protester. He won’t face charges.” That article, and countless others, repeatedly described Gardner’s attacker, James Spurlock, as an “activist” or “protester,” and not what he was: A rioter who attacked a business owner and paid with his life. Gardner, meanwhile, was tarred as a “white supremacist” for the sin of being a Trump supporter who defended his business from the mob.

The narrative was clear: Gardner had to be obliterated, to send a message to Americans that the same will happen to them if they try to stand against mob violence. Under pressure from the left, District Attorney Don Kleine appointed a black special prosecutor to lead a politically-motivated second investigation, which brought assault and manslaughter charges against Gardner. Instead of turning himself in, Gardner, who had already been evicted by his landlord, committed suicide.

After Gardner’s suicide, local Democrats publicly celebrated his death.

The destruction of Jake Gardner is merely the most appalling incident in the left’s steady escalation of lawfare against its enemies. There are many other examples just in the past year. Kyle Rittenhouse was charged with murder for defending himself from Antifa goons. The McCloskeys of St. Louis faced felony charges for arming themselves against a braying mob, and so on. The racialization of America’s justice system, to the detriment of law-abiding Americans, is the most immediate aftereffect of the Summer of George Floyd.

These egregious abuses of power by the political left have been met with shocking timidity on the right, and this timidity sadly extends up to the executive branch.  The Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Justice exists to investigate cases like these, where citizens are being denied equal treatment under the law due to their race or political views. But despite having the means on hand to counterattack, the DOJ has done nothing.

This goes beyond cases related to riots. Right now, New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing to shut down the NRA and seize its assets. The excuse is that the NRA is a fraudulent organization, but absolutely nobody is fooled by this fig leaf rationalization. James’ real reason for shutting down the NRA is its long history of success advocating for gun rights. James wants the NRA shut down for pushing a political view she doesn’t like. Even the ACLU’s national legal director David Cole has called James’s effort flagrantly unconstitutional.

So, if the New York attorney general is blatantly attempting to suppress free speech on political grounds, where is the Department of Justice? A thorough investigation into James’s office, its internal communications, and its motivations should have been announced the moment the NRA suit was filed. So far, it hasn’t happened.

The Obama administration was far more proactive. It recognized the power that the DOJ has, and used it vigorously. After the deaths of Michael Brown and Freddie Gray, OCR launched sweeping investigations of police departments in Ferguson, Baltimore, Chicago, and other cities. These investigations were used to extract so-called “consent decrees”: Police departments adopted a raft of left-wing demands in return for the federal government backing off.

If the Obama administration could use the DOJ to undermine effective law enforcement, then the Trump administration absolutely can, and should, use it to protect the public from racially and politically-motivated prosecutions. But for four years, OCR has instead been shockingly passive.

Coupled with the federal government’s slow response to violent rioting, and we have the Summer of George Floyd: Violent left-wing rioters terrorize their cities with virtual impunity. Those who defend themselves, or even speak up too loudly, risk personal ruin and even death. While they supposedly hold the highest office in America, conservatives live under a regime of barely-disguised anarcho-tyranny. The end result is demoralization. Tucker Carlson said it best in early June, after the federal government’s passive response to the first wave of riots:

The first requirement of leadership is that you watch over the people in your care … People will put up with almost anything if you do that. You can regularly say embarrassing things on television. You can hire Omarosa to work at the White House. All of that will be forgiven if you protect your people.

But if you do not protect them — or worse than that, if you seem like you can’t be bothered to protect them — then you’re done. It’s over. People will not forgive weakness. [Fox News]

The right will never defeat the left, and civilization will never defeat anarchy, if its supporters are too intimidated to stand up for themselves, their families, and their country. Jake Gardner stood for something, and paid for it with his life. We must all resolve to honor brave men like Jake Gardner, and all patriotic Americans who dare to stand-up for their countries and families against the evil forces of the violent, frothing mobs. To honor Jake Gardner and fulfill his promise to the forgotten patriots of our nation, President Trump must fully mobilize the executive branch to make sure none suffer his fate again. Our country, our civilization, and our future depend on it.
