Texan who prosecutors say “lit the match” of Jan. 6 riot sentenced to more than 7 years in prison

Guy Reffitt, a 49-year-old Wylie resident, never entered the Capitol but helped ignite the crowd “into an unstoppable force,” a prosecutor at his trial said. His sentence is the longest given out so far from the Jan. 6 riot.

On January 6, 2021, Pro-Trump supporters and far-right forces flooded Washington, D.C. to protest Trump's election loss. Hundreds breached the U.S. Capitol Building, approximately 13 were arrested and one protester was killed.
Guy Wesley Reffitt is identified in a video currently being investigated by the FBI. Reffitt, an alleged member of Texas Three Percenters, will be among the first defendants standing trial for participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
