One of two Brazilian twin-sister influencers was killed and her sister was seriously injured in a horror crash when the car they were travelling in overturned on a motorway.

TikTok social media star Lara Cleaver Afonso, 26, lost her life in the tragic collision on the SP-322 state highway in São Paulo, Brazil, in the early hours of Sunday, October 23.

The crash took place on a stretch of the highway between Guaraci and Olimpia in the south-eastern state which is the most populous in Brazil.

Lara and twin sister Dara had been staying at a rural property the night before and were en route to a photoshoot when the accident happened.

Civil Police said Lara was behind the wheel at the time and the twins' cousin was also a passenger in the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is being investigated but police believe Lara fell asleep at the wheel ahead of a curve in the road.

The young woman was rescued and taken to a hospital in Olimpia, in the north of São Paulo, but she did not survive her injuries.

Dara was taken to the Hospital de Base (General Hospital) in São José do Rio Preto, where she underwent emergency surgery.

She currently remains in hospital for observation.

The sisters' cousin was treated for minor injuries and has already been discharged.

Lara and Dara were active on TikTok, where they shared snippets of their daily life. At the time of writing, the twins had amassed more than 45,000 followers.
