Archaeologists from the University of Nottingham believe to have made an incredible discovery - a Viking-era boat buried beneath a pub in Wirral, England.
Locals have long suspected the existence of the vessel, which was first uncovered by workmen in 1938 but was then reburied to avoid delays due to a potential excavation.
The boat is estimated to be around six to nine meters in length and was most likely used for cargo or fishing purposes.
Like the famous Oseberg ship, the clinker-built boat is buried in waterlogged blue clay which has helped to preserve its timber.
The discovery poses an exciting opportunity for archaeologists to learn more about the history of the Wirral and its connections to Viking culture. …...more
