Expanding on why archetypes and character development are essential to becoming an America President:

The American presidency has symbolic/ceremonial functions along with policy and governance. Can’t get elected without the former, can’t get much done without the latter.

The British system handles this by having royals who handle the ceremony, symbolism, and celebrity aspects of leadership, without getting much into policy or governing.

The American president has to do both.

Hierarchy can be found not only in humans, but in just about every species on the planet. Even in plants. It’s foundational to life and it is determined through competition.

In every presidential contest, odds of winning are strongly influenced by which candidate is identified with a higher-ranking archetype. Whether or not the image of that archetype actually matches the personal reality.

In 2016, Trump embodied the archetype of a bully from an 80s high school movie who shoved his nerd opponents into lockers. Hillary tried to come off as a powerful Stacey who had it together but it didn’t work.

This is why the Democrats went to great lengths to chadify Biden’s image. The aviators, the corvette, the cool old guy polo shirts, the ice cream. It was great image-making and they used all of the tools at their disposal to cause a wide swath of Americans to actually hallucinate.

This is the power of the establishment’s tools for manipulating the public mind. They’ve been honing these psychological tactics for over a century. In 2020, they paired it with trauma and fear programming to make the public mind that much more malleable.

Trump now embodies a different archetype: the usurped King, the old alpha lion who was wounded by the pack of hyenas, but he still has that old gleam in his eye.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, a noble son of Camelot out to avenge the murder of his father and uncle, is also projecting a powerful image. The good prince who is possessed of noblesse oblige and a love of creation and life. He doesn’t have the resources as of yet to project that image more widely, but because it’s an authentic image it is, I think, more durable.

He is now being branded as a craven careerist and it’s working because his operation hasn’t assertively branded him otherwise. Worse, the work that has been done to make him a better retail politician seems to have made him more anxious and self-aware on the trail. He carries himself too tensely.
