'Free Ken Paxton': Amid Impeachment Proceedings, Donald Trump Takes A Stand For The Texas Attorney General

On Saturday, 45th President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to bash the Texas House and specifically speaker Dade Phelan for their impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R). Trump praised the attorney aeneral, saying that Paxton was “one of the most hard working and effective Attorney Generals in the United States.”

Paxton, who is an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, is being impeached by the Texas legislature over evidence that was supposedly gathered during an investigation that was taken over numerous months, per The Washington Post. The announcement comes right after Paxton openly blasted Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) over his reported drunkenness while residing over the House floor, calling for the speaker to resign.

The alleged reasons for impeachment include bribery, obstruction of justice, and abuse of public trust, though there are more allegations leveled at the Texas attorney general.

Paxton has already come out strongly against the proceeding, calling the impeachment vote “political theater” and calling for supporters to protest outside the Capitol in Austin. Paxton has made it clear that he finds no wrongdoings in how he’s operated as Texas AG, stating that he is “pretty pleased” with how he and his office has done so far. He also did not apologize for the behavior cited in the articles of impeachment.

Donald Trump seems to agree with Paxton, as the New York City businessman took to his Truth Social to blast the proceedings.

“The RINO [Republican in name only] Speaker of the House of Texas, Dade Phelan, who is barely a Republican at all and failed the test on voter integrity, wants to impeach one of the most hard working and effective Attorney Generals in the United States, Ken Paxton, who just won re-election with a large number of American Patriots strongly voting for him,” the former president’s first message wrote. “You would think that any issue would have been fully adjudicated by the voters of Texas, especially when that vote was so conclusive….”

“….I love Texas, won it twice in landslides, and watched as many other friends, including Ken Paxton, came along with me,” he continued in his second social media post. “Hopefully Republicans in the Texas House will agree that this is a very unfair process that should not be allowed to happen or proceed—I will fight you if it does. It is the Radical Left Democrats, RINOS, and Criminals that never stop. ELECTION INTERFERENCE! Free Ken Paxton, let them wait for the next election!”

Paxton has had an overall very successful tenure as Texas attorney general, making major moves to limit transgender operations on children and restricting abortions within the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Texans will just have to wait and see how the impeachment proceedings turn out.
