James Cameron Confirms He’s Currently Writing A New ‘Terminator’ Movie

May 25, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

So, James Cameron was a featured speaker at the Dell Tech World convention and surprised the crowd with an interesting update on the creative front.

Cameron started that he started writing a new Terminator movie three months ago, but wants to see how A.I. develops before he goes any further with it.

If you remember, Cameron had mentioned last December that he was in “discussions” to direct the next ‘Terminator’ movie.

If I were to do another ‘Terminator’ film and maybe try and to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy.

How you take in this latest update on the ‘Terminator’ franchise will wholly depend on how you currently feel about seeing another instalment in this never-ending series.

If I was once excited by the prospect of a new ‘Terminator’ movie, I couldn’t care less anymore. As far as I’m concerned, this franchise died after “Terminator: Salvation” got released.

The bad sequels kept on coming. ‘Genisys’ and ‘Dark Fate’ both stunk. There is no place left to go when it comes to ‘Terminator,’ just kill it already. The best ones had Cameron directing and Schwarzenegger as the lead. Now the films have just turned into these hodge-podge special effects bonanzas.

Cameron hasn’t directed a ‘Terminator’ movie since “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” although he had major creative involvement in “Terminator; Dark Fate,” which Tim Miller directed. The film lost $120 million and garnered bad reviews.

Cameron has spoken about his regrets in casting Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘Dark Fate.’ He even had some, um, creative differences with director Miller during production of the film. It seems as though he’s now thinking of reclaiming the franchise and taking it over again on his own terms.
