everything on the internet will be read and interpreted literally. The sooner you accept the immutability of this truth, and adjust accordingly, the less you will suffer from it
the direct answer to “what is wrong with your brains” is

- autistic folks are overrepresented on plaintext website

- even normies are scrolling casually and will read everything at face value

- some of the ppl who recognise the satire will still choose to read adversarially
actually it’s the wrong question. people’s brains are roughly the same as they’ve always been. If you actually wanna stop the problem from reoccurring the question is more “what is it about this media environment that I am chronically misunderstanding?”

in the interest of self-reporting i feel obliged to note that i havent felt envious of anybody else’s success in what feels like a decade now. sometimes i envy people’s peace a bit, but never their outward success. i dont think im morally different, imo i just have precise goals
anybody who is more outwardly successful than me on certain metrics like $ or statu etc got there in a very path-dependent way, and i am on a path of my own that i chose very deliberately n wouldnt trade for anything. which is a kind of meta-peace even as im creatively stressed
like if i wanted More Money Now i could get a job. i dont want a job

if i wanted More Followers Now i could post outrage bait. i dont want to post bait

on & on. the one thing i do want is Better Essays Now but that takes time n work lol. years of work before effortless success

I originally wrote this after thinking through a question someone asked me about how to deal with doomscrolling

Today someone else asked me about how to deal with validation-seeking and I realize it has the same core answer
“how do I doomscroll less” “how do I be less validation-seeking” are both kinda losing frames. The upstream question is: what’s the point of doing that?
The point is typically to free you up to do your best work, whatever that means to you. And it’ll be easier to work backwards from focusing on doing what you want, than by focusing on not-doing what you don’t want

[mumbling to self] i'd like a wordpress plugin that lets me "upvote" my own posts. repeatedly. I suppose you could use tags to do this, but it's slightly annoying that that takes extra time, i'd like a one-click solution
the analog equivalent of this is that you can add stuff to a piece of paper with the stroke of a pen. i use lines and stars for this
oddly i think the lightest touch solution might be to write a post with a meta-index of the other posts, and then "scribble" all over *that*, see the flame emojis here

whenever people praise me for my writing i think they're too easily impressed

and i dont think this is me being self-effacing or modest, lol. i think pretty highly of myself. i just think that the known echelons of human possibility is way, way higher
david ogilvy said "strive for the company of immortals" and i take that to heart

its good, but is it shakespeare-goethe-dante good? mmhmm. it could be better
this does get messy when you're interfacing with people who *aren't* striving for the company of immortals, because then you have to perform a kind of double-consciousness in order to have a social life, where it's like "yea this is great for a random blogpost in 2023..."

walter chrysler's daughter thelma was kind of a baddie 👀 ImageImageImage
i was looking into her dad lol i was curious about the NYC building. grandpa henry was a civil war vet and a locomotive engineer. walter sr, the chrysler founder, worked his way up from apprenticing at railroads to being a works manager... Image
he then got a hookup from James J Storrow, a banker who was a director of Alco (the american locomotive company). storrow asked if he was into cars, chrysler said of course, and storrow introduced him to the president of Buick, who hired chrysler to fix their production line
