MEXICO CITY — El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele intends to seek five more years in office, his New Ideas party said on Monday, even though the constitution prohibits the head of state from serving two consecutive terms.

Bukele, 41, submitted a formal application to be nominated as a candidate in the February 2024 election, the party said.
