On Thursday night’s edition of “Tucker Carlson Tonight”, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene once again staked out a position of bold moral leadership within the Republican Party, announcing a new bill that would levy a nationwide ban on the drugging and mutilation of children in the name of “gender affirmation.”

MTG’s new bill takes to heart a suggestion Revolver made two months ago:

It’s high time that the doctors who inflict these “treatments” on minors not be regarded as doctors at all. They should be instead be considered what they actually are: child mutilators.

The goal of every sane, concerned American should not be to merely save girls’ sports and stop taxpayer-funded drag queen story time. The goal should instead be to put a complete stop to this tragic moral abomination by putting perverts, predators, and child mutilators in prison.

What action could be even taken, you might ask? That’s the fun part… First, fight tooth and nail against covering transgender care with Medicaid. Medical licensing is handled at the state level, so start going after their licensing of doctors who promote transitioning children. Second, create a registry for patients to lodge complaints against “transition” doctors, like we do for sex offenders or like New York City does for landlords. Or, make quack transition doctors into actual sex offenders, and create entirely new crimes like “child mutilation” to describe their actions.

We are very happy to see heroic lawmakers like MTG take the lead on this issue.

Still, the obvious has to be said: MTG’s bill will not pass. She is a member of the minority party in the U.S. House. Even if both houses of Congress flip Republican in three months, the White House will still be held by a Democrat who will surely veto any attacking the modern sacrament of sex change. So even with total Republican unity, which doesn’t actually exist, Taylor Greene’s proposal is years away from becoming law. It’s a worthy protest action and has Revolver’s full support. But for the time being, MTG’s bill does nothing.

That is emphatically not the case for America’s fifty states, however. Right now, twenty-four states have unified Republican control of their legislative and executive branch (if one counts Nebraska, where the single-house Legislature is officially non-partisan but dominated by conservatives).

Unlike MTG, Republicans in these states really can pass laws blocking the horrifying practices that sham “doctors” are currently inflicting on thousands of children. It is a moral atrocity and political malpractice that every Republican state isn’t copying MTG’s bill at this very moment. Americans who care about their children should be contacting state lawmakers and pressuring them to do exactly that.

Every Republican-controlled state, without exception, should be passing the most stringent law against child sex changes that can pass political muster. At a minimum, stop promoting this nonsense in public schools and don’t pay for it with public funds. But in deep red states, go further: Make sex changes for children a crime, and attach severe penalties for the practice, just like we would for a madman who maims children abducted off the street.

Will these new laws be targeted in the courts? Absolutely. Many of them will go down in flames. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals (which covers Maryland, the Virginias, and the Carolinas) just ruled that gender dysphoria is a disability protected by the Americans With Disabilities Act, so it violates “civil rights” to not house a male prisoner in a women’s prison upon his request. The Fourth Circuit, to say the least, is not going to be a useful ally in protecting children. Even the Supreme Court, with its 6-3 conservative majority, might wuss out on protecting America’s children.

But that doesn’t matter. Patriots and child defenders should forge ahead anyway. The transgender moment in America is enabled by an aggressive push that seeks to normalize it all as much as possible. Schools use the “genderbread person” in kindergarten, because they know whatever a child learns at age 6 will be difficult to ever change later. Nick Jr.’s “Blues Clues” used to teach about colors and shapes, now it airs cartoons of drag queens singing about trans people at pride parades.

Boston Children’s Hospital promotes guides on how a little boys can “tuck” his penis to make it more resemble a vagina.

Americans must fight this normalization with de-normalization. We must loudly send the message that these practices are sickening—the demented agenda of a small and mentally ill minority. The best way to do precisely that is to pass laws loudly expressing the public’s real values: that children should be protected from predators, not handed over to them. We might not be able to instantaneously change our nation’s laws, but we can very swiftly change the culture if a very loud and energetic “Normal Majority” starts throwing its weight around.

This is a battle that must be fought with all possible energy, right now. First, because the mutilation of children is a grave evil, and all of us have a moral duty to fight that evil with every weapon available. But second, because resistance fuels greater resistance. When the pro-life movement successfully overturned Roe v. Wade last month, it didn’t come out of nowhere. It was the culmination of decades of effort, including many state-level bills that failed in the courts. But those decades of effort helped the movement fine-tune its strategies, and it sent the message that the cause was worth fighting and that victory was possible in the first place. Without all those failed efforts, there would have been no Dobbs.

Today, the same principle holds for protecting America’s children. Want to convince people that it’s possible to stop the tide of transgender insanity? Then start by actually trying to stop it. This war can be won. But it won’t be won in the halls of Congress. It will be won in America’s statehouses.
