Kevin McCarthy is in a sticky political situation due to the lousy deal he struck for Joe Biden. It’s worth noting that we didn’t say “with” Joe Biden because the debt ceiling agreement is a major win for the Democrats, not us. This has put McCarthy and any Republicans who support it in a precarious position.

Matt Gaetz, one of the holdouts during McCarthy’s bid for the speakership, recently made an appearance on Newsmax. During the interview, he openly expressed his intention to vote against the bill. Gaetz also shed some light on the behind-the-scenes frenzy as McCarthy works hard to gather enough votes. As Matt mentioned, McCarthy needed to secure a “majority” of the majority, which in this case translates to 112 Republican votes, to pass this bill on the House floor. That was the condition he accepted while vying for the position of House Speaker.

If McCarthy failed to secure the “majority” of the majority and resorts to relying on Democrats to pass the bill, Matt suggested that it would lead to immediate efforts to remove McCarthy as Speaker.

But the debt debacle just passed the House according to CNBC, and only 71 Republicans voted against it.

Things may not get wild yet, folks.

Oh well, there’s always next time.
